CONSTRUCTION MODEL (MASTER)

 1. Construction model (Masters)
The first step in building the mold is making model. Parent or may be specially constructed wooden, plaster, metal or other materials that can not be attacked by styrene monomer. Model is to have good dimensional stability and surface quality must be at least as good as finished parts is desired.
Surface treatment includes waxing, sanding, varnishing and polishing.
Varnishing is important if the model is made of a porous material like wood or plaster, which requires several layers.
When vanishing and embellish it is important to use materials resistant to styrene monomer.The best are those based on polyester.
Most sealants and varnishes which dry air attack on the styrene monomer and should be protected by a layer of carefully applied demulant, for example, polyvinyl alcohol.
When prepared mold surface, it is important to not leave marks and scratches, because they will see the finished workpiece surface.
Traces of the play area can be relatively easily removed, but the mold surface relief resulting from the model outputs can be very difficult to correct after the mold is ready.
Model is also adapted to the specific process used to make the mold.
This means that the sealing material, the edges of the settlement, the area must be modeled and treated as for the rest of the model.
When the model is ready and finished surface is lăcuieşte and allow to dry for at least a week.Then the model should be treated with mold release agents needed.
First apply more wax mold release and plain in thin layers using a sponge.
Work the wax in small circles, in sections 25 to 30% and limited time. Immediately shiny, like wax does not dry out, using special paper or Flannel. Change them often.
Wax should be in the range of 4-5 layers minimum of three hours between, for drying each layer. The last layer of wax should be allowed to dry at least 12 hours.
The next step is the application layer demulant liquid, ie polyvinyl alcohol, using a piece of suede, weltex or similar materials.
Material must be saturated with polyvinyl alcohol and then carefully drained. Layer is applied by scrubbing the surface with a damp cloth with large movements in order to form a thin layer.

2. Application of matrix gelcoatului

Gelcoat are created based on unsaturated polyester resins selected to achieve high HDT. This feature will allow a large number of pieces in the same mold. These gelcoat are ready for use after adding the percentage of hardener (methyl ethyl ketone peroxide = MEC).
It should read carefully the instructions before starting work.
A poor implementation of it can lead to undesirable results.
Gelcoat application is made with a soft brush with long hair, the first layer of 0.35 mm + / - 0.05 mm in at least two passages (ideally three passes).
Leave to dry gelcoatul two minutes between each pass;
A layer thicker than 0.5 mm causes deformation, cracks or improper question;
A thickness of less than 0.3 mm causes an incomplete building that is manifested by insufficient gloss, no glare, glass fiber cracks and observation.
Allow the gelcoat to gel layer (sticky contact without transfer of material)

3. Tips / Key Points
Gelcoat be mixed before use (10 minutes to 24 hours).
A low viscosity will cause excessive mixing, increasing the risk of yield loss of styrene and formation porosity.
Gelcoat be mixed deep and surface, avoiding turbulence.
Never mix gelcoatul using compressed air. This method is effective and the risk of pollution with styrene monomer.
Do not add anything else besides gelcoat methyl ethyl ketone peroxide in the percentage required.
The recommended temperature is 18-23 gr.C.
Do not use more than 3% catalyst, and further shrinkage will occur autodemulare.
Never use less than 1.2% catalyst, will cause poor polymerization.
